LEVEL (L) - This type of line has no taper at all giving it a constant thickness throughout the line. Although this type of line can still be found on cheap novice outfits, it is not suited for beginner fly casters because it has no aerodynamic characteristics. Level line is best used in conjunction with some kind of a custom rig, such as a sink tip or shooting head which can be attached to the front of the level taper giving better casting dynamics.
